STORY TWO
On the first evening, August 21st, there was a lengthy virtual meeting where we were officially welcomed and given an overview of the program. So much happened in the meeting, as we also had to choose our leaders for the 2022 cohort. Oh well, I had to grab dinner even while the meeting was on, and I served as the campaign manager alongside Motunrayo, a long-time primary school friend for Temilade Adelakun, who won the Vice President elections. As a great supporter, I knew we would pull that one off. Christian Agu won the President's elections. I had dinner with Esther Ali, and met a couple of people in the persons of Danladi, Racheal, and a couple of other people I cannot remember now.
There was a welcome party on the first night, and as I too like enjoyment, Esther Ali came to drag me, and I followed as expected. Though the party did not meet my expectations, the organizers made an effort. We took turns introducing ourselves briefly. I got bored and decided to grab a drink with Jesujoba, whom I had met earlier at the CSR. A good drink makes everything better. I stayed back a little bit more, listening to what each brilliant soul had to say. I eventually left the party to get some sleep, and I later found out a lot more happened that I had missed, including the group selfie. Sad!
ViMP was five days of rigorous training that included analyzing case studies, receiving lectures from high-profile doctors and lecturers at the Lagos Business School, completing group tasks, networking, engaging in thought-provoking conversations, and more. It was indeed a different and much needed experience for me. The meals at LBS was definitely part of the experience that one can hardly forget, as well as how Tobi helped in capturing moments with his camera. Unforgettable! Friday was definitely a memorable day for me personally and for other in-person participants. It ended with a different dinner and a little get-together at Room 404. There were games, music, drinks, and it was quite entertaining. We got to loosen up a bit after a tasking week, and it was a beautiful experience. I almost lost my life in a flash, but God was like, "It isn’t time yet, you’ve got so much to do”. I am thankful for the opportunity to meet new people, grow my network, and learn.
Weeks after the program, I can still sense the joy, vibe, and enthusiasm of #vimp. To avoid forgetting the concepts presented and to actively apply them to my life, business, and career, I have made the decision to revisit my notes and the materials that were provided during the program, keeping in mind the advice that the speakers offered. I will remain forever grateful to Junior Achievement Nigeria, and I am eager to return the favor by sponsoring the Venture in Management Program in years to come.
Cheers to a shift in mindset!
